Before the End of the Year

So another month has just ended, and now we are 3/4 of the way through the year.  I was completing my list of accomplishments (see related post here), to see how I am doing on my personal goals and it got me thinking, before you know it, we will be looking at a new year and saying, “2013 – This year I want to (fill in the blank, save more money, lose more weight, exercise more, reach out to friends more, etc.)”.  Now, I am not one to make New Years’ Resolutions because I believe that I am a work in progress and that I should always strive to improve.  However, that being said, I  realized that I still have time to accomplish a few things by year’s end.  My biggest goal, is to exercise more regularly.
The hardest thing for me has been to make time to go to the gym.  I often find excuses that I am too tired, too busy, etc… Notice these are not major obstacles, they have to do with my attitude and my choice to make it a priority.  So in order to get myself in gear I am doing a few things to meet my goal:

  • scheduling gym visits in my day planner
  • adding a recurring reminder at the end of each week to my phone calendar (just in case I erase my day planner)
  • going to change my mind set at the end of my work day as I prepare to go to the gym (I will think about how good I will feel after instead of focusing on how tired I am after a full work day)
  • imagine how good I will feel if my jeans are a little loose by New Years
  • I am going to share on my blog whether I reach my goal or not (gulp, this one is tough, but it makes me accountable)

Do you have any goals you want to accomplish by the year’s end?  If so, what is your biggest obstacle?

Mid Year Goals

The end of June not only signifies the end of Spring and the beginning of Summer, it is also the half-way point of the year.  This is a great time to revisit the goals I made for myself and back in January.

Mid Year Goals

I know that I, personally, am not where I want to be in terms of my financial and weight loss goals for the year.   New brakes on the car and some home repairs have impacted by budget and I have not been diligent enough to schedule visits to the gym regularly.   But, that is ok, because there are worse things that can happen and I am an optimist.

So today I am revising my goals for the second half of the year.  I  am also making some blogging goals that I did not make at the beginning of the year, because at that time my blog was only in my mind.  The birth of my blog is one of the goals I did meet and that came with so many other blessings.  I have met an amazing group of bloggers and have learned how to pin, tweet, post and make a Facebook page.  There is still so much to learn, but I am enjoying the experience.

I hope that the first half of the year has been good to you and wish you an even better second half.  What is the biggest goal you have for the second half of this year?

Thank you for stopping by!

Tracking Accomplishments

And so another month ends and a new one begins.  It amazes me how fast time goes by.  I have found it helpful to take a few minutes at the end of each month to jot down a few accomplishments and successes to give me motivation for the following month.

I made a simple page in my planner that categorizes the different areas that I have set goals for myself.  I use it to reflect at year end, on what has happened during the year.   For example, I generally set goals for myself in the following several areas.

This is what my blank page looks like:

Now there are lots of definitions and interpretations of achievements, I prefer Merriam-Webster’s, “a result gained by effort”.  Simple and to the point.  Sometimes the items I note are gained by effort from me alone, and sometimes it is a family, or group effort.

For May, my end of month list looks like this:

I also have a couple of additional categories, but you get the idea.  Some months have more items than others but I have found by recording the achievements, they are effectual in providing a sense of success and accomplishment.   Additionally, it helps me determine what goals to set for the following month.  Most importantly, it helps me keep focus on the areas of my life that are important to me.

Thank you for stopping by my blog.  I love comments and appreciate each one. How do you keep track of your achievements?
